Cells, organs, and a myriad of proteins all working together to keep you healthy and safe.  In a nutshell, that is the job of your Immune System.

The Immune System may very well be the most advanced and intricate system of the entire body.  It is your first line of defense to defeat all those downright dangerous pathogens you encounter daily.

To make it easier to understand, I’ll divide it into 2 parts.  The first is the Innate Immune System.  The second, the Adaptive (or Aquired) Immune System.

The two primary functions of the Innate Immune System are to act as a barrier between you and the environment thereby preventing invaders from entering your body.  If that doesn’t work it is then responsible to search out and destroy those invaders.

What most don’t realize is that your SKIN is your first line of defense.  Yes, the skin is a part of your Immune System.  It is your largest organ. It provides a physical, multi-layered barrier to external threats.  There are glands in the skin that make it a hostile environment for microbes.  Shedding skin cells carry any bacteria that has managed to make its way into the skin.   This leaves you clean, fresh, and microbe-free!
